By Type of Control
From TheSmartField.com
When we say type of control, we will refer to the method in which the system downhole is controlled from the surface.
- The most common method to control an Intelligent Completion is Direct Hydraulics, which uses a direct communication from the surface to the downhole devices by means of control lines (also called capillary tubes).
- Another method for control is Direct Electric, with electric cable, very similar to the deployment of ESP (Electrosubmersible Pumps).
- A combination of both methods called Electro-Hydraulic, which uses the hydraulic control lines and fluid to produce the main force needed by the downhole interval valves, and electric lines or I-Wire, to power a secondary command module that will divert the hydraulic force to the desired position. One example of this type of system is the WellDynamics SCRAMS.
- Other method of control is the Binary Hydraulics. This method is also known by the name of Digital Hydraulics.
